As Alaskans mark 150 years since the US purchase of Russian-America, a fascinating part of that history is Alaska’s relationship with its Bering Strait neighbor. After 40 years of a Cold War “Ice Curtain,” Alaskan and Russian citizen diplomats opened the border and launched a 30-year era of perilous yet prolific progress.
David Ramseur, author and University of Alaska Anchorage Institute of Social and Economic Research visiting scholar presents.

The sermon was delivered on Sunday, October 14, 2018, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Carlton D. Pearson, Affiliate Minister.
William Cowper, the son of a minister, and 18th century poet, hymnodist wrote the phrase: “Variety’s the very spice of life, that gives it all its flavor.” A friend and mentee of John Newton, who wrote Amazing Grace, was an abolitionist and seems to have understood while living in England, the beauty of diversity and human community.
A community is a small or large social unit that has something in common—norms, religion, values, or identity. The word itself is a combination of the two words; common and unity. Communion is likewise, common and union. Jesus prayed, “That they may be one.” We pray “that we may be one.” Our vision here at ALL Souls is to be both a physical and spiritual example of unity, diversity, a rainbow of colors, flavors and love beyond belief. Join us all month while we present and re-present this unique trait, trend, and target of our church community!

A simple and non confrontational explanation about the sensible need for denominational churches. Your church has nothing to be ashamed of if its doctrines align you with believers of a certain stripe, unless the doctrines are wrong. In which case you will certainly have to deal with the Lord. Denominationalism is at the very least, honest.
Southwood Baptist Church is an intergenerational multi-racial fellowship of Christian believers who are traditional in doctrine but forward thinking and progressive in outlook. Southwood Baptist Church is a presence driven church ( through prayer, biblical preaching, and music), an equipping church, an externally focused church, an empowering church, and a place where you can belong. Southwood places a high premium on community, and on our youth because we greatly value relationships. The role of the staff is to equip the church members to do the work of the ministry and this is achieved through modeling, mentoring, and motivating. You are invited to become a member of the Southwood family and we believe you will find a home for your heart here. Our vision is to make an impact for Christ inside our community, across our nation, and around the world. Come join us for worship services on Sunday. PH – 918-665-3744 Website –

“The Long Reach of the Sixties: LBJ, Nixon, and the Making of the Contemporary Supreme Court”
Laura Kalman focuses on the period between 1965 and 1971, when Presidents Johnson and Nixon launched the most ambitious effort to control the Court since Franklin Roosevelt tried to pack it with additional justices. She roots their efforts to mold the Court in their desire to protect their Presidencies, and she sets them within the broader context of a struggle between the executive, judicial and legislative branches of government. The battles that ensued transformed the meaning of the Warren Court in American memory by calcifying its image as “activist” and “liberal”; changed the Court itself as an institution; and have haunted—indeed scarred—the contemporary Supreme Court appointments process.
Laura Kalman is Professor of History at the University of California, Santa Barbara. The 2017 Maurice and Muriel Fulton Lectureship in Legal History was recorded on April 20, 2017.
