In Mr Robert Gillis memory, this landmark in Benton Arkansas will be renowned in local history forever.

This video is dedicated to the memory of the Diamond G Rodeo. This footage was carefully collected in mediums of reel film, snapshots, and VHS by Nicki McCallie his daughter.

He is survived by his wife Norma Gillis, son, Bobby Gillis and wife Layna Gillis, daughter, Nicki McCallie and husband Sam McCallie, Grandchildren Clay McCallie, Sammie Beene, and Kietha Chalupa, great grandchildren Colt & Abbie McCallie, Christian & Jackson Chalupa, Bucky, Bradey, & Bracie Beene.

Gillis Auto Salvage and Diamond G Rodeo will forever be remembered in the hearts of the lucky Arkansans that had the opportunity to be a part of it.

We love you Grandaddy!

REASON I POSTED THIS: Grandaddy “Robert Gillis” was more of a grandfather to me than either of my biological grandparents. I am going to miss him so much and that during the time I uploaded this to calm myself down after returning from the Hospice center in Bryant with plans of returning to be by his side again in the morning, received the call from his daughter in law, that he had passed a little after 11pm. I hope that by showing people around the world, that in Benton Arkansas, United States, the unforgettable memories and good times come easy here and that their creator is now watching over all of us now in heaven. Diamond G and the “junk yard” have been a landmark in our state for a long time now…..I feel I have given credit now and have shown how much having Bobby and Layna as my friends has impacted me in my life. The last 8 years I’ve been around you guys I have learned and experienced things that have made me grow into the person that I am today. Thank you.

Robert “Shorty” Gillis 1924-2011

A Cowboys Prayer

Oh Lord, I’ve never lived where churches grow.
I love creation better as it stood
That day You finished it so long ago
And Looked upon Your work and called it good.

I thank You, Lord, that I am placed so well,
That You have made my freedom so complete;
That I’m no slave of whistle, clock or bell,
Nor weak-eyed prisoner of wall and street.
Just let me live my life as I’ve begun
And give me work that’s open to the sky;
Make me a pardner of the wind and sun,
And I won’t ask a life that’s soft or high.

You know me better than my mother did.
Just keep an eye on all that’s done and said
And right me, sometimes, when I turn aside,
And guide me on the long, dim, trial ahead
That stretches upward toward the Great Divide.
